EDUCATION:
TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
I have over 30 years of experience teaching science in secondary schools in both Canada and the United States.
In 2017 I retired from an 18-year teaching job at a high school In Washington State. My course assignments included General Chemistry, IB Biology, General Biology, Science and even French. Since my retirement, I have been substitute teaching at several local high schools. I have taken some long-term sub positions that include AP Chemistry, Biology and French. In addition, I have had other interesting short-term sub positions. It is fun to come into a school and teach Music, Social Studies or Spanish for a day or two.
My teaching experience in Canada includes both high school and junior high school science. In high school, I taught IB Biology, General Biology and General Science classes. At the junior high level, my Science and Math teaching covered the spectrum from Academic Challenge students to supported Adaptation classes. I also taught French and Health--an interesting challenge with junior high students!
I have university and community college teaching experience in Canada and the United States. I taught such courses such as Biology, Cellular Biology, Plant Physiology, Biochemistry and Industrial Microbiology (Beer, Wine and Cheese Making!). That was a fun course...we made beer in a lab! The drinking age in Canada was 18 so the students could sample their results. I also taught a Retail Marketing course at a local community college.
Not all my teaching experience has been in classroom settings. I am a Certified Specialist of Wine. I have used this certification as a basis for my Wine Education presentations at a local Washington winery. Presentations have included a series on Wines of the World, methods for making wine and even a wine blending class. As well, I have been able to organize small group wine tours to Europe. Teaching on the go!
